An On-Line Journal

2003 05 15 - Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

Last Christmas, during my holidays, I was surfing the net and quite by accident stumbled upon an on-line journal. (At this time I had never heard of on-line journals or Bloggs as they're commonly refferred to these days).

I found it incredibly interesting.

There is a certain voyeuristic appeal to looking into someone's life.
Before long I was hooked - I read through every post in this journal.
That might not sound like a big deal, but he started it in 1999!

There are literally pages upon pages of entries, many of which are so deep, so profound that I had to re-read many of them. (I don't know where I'd be were it not for dictionaries)

Meet Simon Funk
(Cool name or what?)

I believe Simon to be a genius. I really do.
He sees things with absolute clarity and has a remarkable ability to express himself.
I am completely fascinated by his detailed, yet somewhat tortured outlook on just about all things social.
Our personalities couldn't be more different.

Anyhow, after I reading his journals, I decided to contact him.
At first I tried the old, "Hey I'm smart too" approach... but who am I kidding.
So I decided just to be neighborly and say hello.

After a few emails it occurred to me that I have something to say!
Well, not really say, more like I have something to offer in a journal.

Simon Funk was the insipation behind the creation of my journal.
In many ways, whenever I write in my journal, I'm reminded of the scene from The Wizrd of Oz when Toto pulls back on the curtain revealing the true Oz.
